Masjid Wilayah Persekutuan
Natural & Artificial Lighting Project
Kuala Lumpur / Malaysia
SLR, BLL, DK Composites
This is an interesting development and realisation of day and artificial light systems for the national mosque of Kuala Lumpur. The large central chandelier diffuses in the prayer hall the day light or artificial light coming from the apex of the central dome. A system of mirrors and heliostats for the day light and flood lights inside the central dome apex redirect the light onto the central chandelier which diffuses the light inside the prayer hall. The windows at the base the domes are fitted with solar lamelle that track the solar position and redirect the sun light on the inner dome surfaces avoiding glare to the visitors and enhancing the colours of the interiors. A constant light level is kept at any time thanks to a cold and warm artificial light system, which compensate loss of daylight due to overcast weather.
